Gluten Free Ramen Noodles

Gluten Free Ramen Noodles

Ever wish you could just make some gluten free Ramen noodles for lunch or a snack?  Well, now you can.  All you need are some gluten free rice sticks or stir fry rice noodles, often found in the Asian isle at your supermarket.  In large cities you can get them more affordable at the Asian markets.

I used to buy ramen noodle packages from the grocery store, take out the seasoning, throw away the wheat noodles, and then add the seasoning to my own rice noodles, making them just as I would regular Ramen noodles.  So why do that and be so wasteful, when you can make your own ramen noodle spice mix.  So I made my own mix.  Now you can use this mix in more than one way.  I will show you two ways today.  In this post, making ramen noodles, and it the next post, as Jazzed Up Chicken Broth, which is delicious on those days you need a liquid diet or are a little under the weather.  The mix will make several servings. When making the mix remember that Tbsp. = Tablespoon and tsp. = teaspoon.  I don’t want to you accidentally put in 1 Tablespoon of pepper when it call for 1/4 teaspoon, that would not be good!  Just store leftovers in an airtight container in your spice cabinet for the next time.

Rice noodles, your choice (eyeball the amount, enough when boiled to fill a normal sized bowl)

Mama’s Gluten Free Chicken Soup Spice Mix

4 Tbsp. GF chicken boullion powder *

4 tsp. parsley
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. celery salt (Optional, it’s great with it, but not a must have)

Mix together a batch of Mama’s Gluten Free Chicken Soup Spice Mix.  Store in an air tight container.

Boil rice noodles per package instructions or until tender.  Usually it will take about 3 minutes.  Test one noodle to see if its done.  Reserve desired amount of water into your serving bowl, 1 cup of liquid is about right, but each person makes ramen noodles their own way.  Drain off the remaining water by pouring the noodles into a colander.  Place noodles into serving bowl with reserved water.  Add a heaping 1 tsp. of Mama’s GF Chicken Soup Spice Mix over noodles and stir to combine.
Eat warm!

GFM Tip Chicken bouillon is not all Gluten Free so look at labels.  I used Herbox this time, it’s by Hormel.  There are also kinds that are MSG Free and Gluten Free.  Look at your health food store for organic bouillon if desires, just at least make sure it is gluten free.

Check out Mama’s next post Jazzed Up Chicken Broth, which is delicious when you are under the weather and makes you feel better too!

I just attempted this and I read that the ramen broth has wheat in it. So I made up a concoction. Similar to yours. I was super bummed when I read that it had wheat in the broth.

There is no wheat in the broth if you use a gluten free bouillion.

I forgot to mention; Better than Bouillon is also Gluten Free.

Yes Better than Bouillon is gluten free, but because it is a liquid it won’t work for the premade mix for the ramen noodles. You would have to make one serving at a time. Does at make sense?

I just looked up Herbox nutrition information and it DOES contain monosodium glutamate. “Better than Bouillon” doesn’t contain msg but it is a paste that must be refrigerated. It’s good stuff though.

There are a couple out there that are MSG free and Gluten free. I thought I mentioned them. Give me a couple days and I will research and make sure they are listed correctly.

I think they are listed in the post, but I will double check and in the next few days try to get the info you are requesting.

I need gluten, dairy and soy fee powdered bouillon???
Anyone know where I can find that?
    Thank You!

Knorr Bouillon, Granulated, Chicken Flavored, 35.3-Ounce Jar this one is soy and dairy fee but has no listing as gluten free, but has mono sodium glutamate which is bad news. . Herbox is gluten free and I believe has no monosdium glutamate. Hylands is a good brand but I can’t find an ingredient list. I will keep looking for you.

Rapunzel Pure Organic Vegetable Bouillon, No Salt Added, 8 Cubes, 2.4-Ounce Packages (Pack of 6). Available at Amazon but does not have a gluten free label so you would want to call the company.

I love this! It’s been so hard to find gluten-free bouillon, but I finally found that Thrive Life bouillon, sauces and seasonings are all certified by the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), which requires less than 10 parts per million. They come in a pantry size can (about the size of a cylinder of hot cocoa) and a gallon-size #10 can.

Here are the links to their chicken bouillon, Beef bouillon, and sauces.

You have no idea how happy I am to see this. My daughter used to eat ramen all the time before we found out she’s allergic to wheat. She just asked me the other day if she could have some…. now I can tell her yes!!! Can’t wait to try this (and the jazzed up chicken soup broth)

I have Dutch babies and Swedish pancakes but I don’t think I have tried Norwegian. But I would be interested in trying. If you have a recipe you would like converted, send it to me!
