  • What is Gluten?
    o Gluten is a protein found in Wheat, Rye, Barley and sometimes Oats.
    o Gluten can be harmful to those with celiac disease by causing an autoimmune response to the body that damages the intestinal lining of the small intestine. This can lead to the bodies inability to digest and absorb nutrients causing malnutrition or a series of other health concerns.

    What are symptoms of Celiac Disease?

    o Some people may not have any noticeable symptoms yet still have celiac disease. It is an inherited, autoimmune disorder.
    o Abdominal cramping/bloating
    o Abdominal Distention
    o Acidosis
    o Appetite increase/cravings
    o Back Pain
    o Constipation
    o Diarrhea
    o Decrease ability to clot blood
    o Depression
    o Dehydration
    o Gas Pains
    o Irritability
    o Mouth Sores/cracks
    o Muscle cramps (Specifically in the hands and legs)
    o Night Blindness

    What is Gluten Intolerance?
    o If you don’t test positive for celiac yet still have symptoms you may have what is called gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity. This affects about 1 in 7 people. Gluten Intolerance can have the same symptoms of Celiac Disease, and it offers the same cure—A gluten Free Diet.
    o Gluten Sensitive Persons may or may not have some of the following symptoms
     Diarrhea
     Leaky Gut Syndrome
     IBS
     Vomiting or the feeling of needing to vomit
     Skin Rashes/ Exzema

    Why Gluten Free?
    o If you have Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance the only cure is a Gluten Free Diet. In fact it is absolutely necessary.
    o You will notice a change in your body within 1-2 weeks if not immediately after beginning a strict gluten free diet.
